About Me/Hear Me Sing

I studied voice at the Royal College of Music (95-97) in London as a postgraduate where I received my performance diploma and studied teaching of voice. When I came top in the ‘Art of Teaching’ class, I was given my first teaching post by the Professor training the course and I have taught now for the last 22+ years, doing singing jobs for fun and profit. I gained my BA degree in Music from Reading University (89-92) where I subsequently taught voice for 8 years (98-06). I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), the National Association of Singing Teachers (NATS), and the Association of Teachers of Singing (AOTOS).

I completed my PhD in Applied Psychology of Music in 2019 (specialism music education and vocal pedagogy) and my MMus in 2013 with overall distinction at the University of Leeds, where I gained a distinction (80) for my MMus Short Recital, won the Concerto Prize and was awarded the Catherine Mills Bursary Award, 2013.

For information about my PhD study on the effects of Mindfulness on Musicians please visit my sister website (Mindfulness for Singers). I have recently had my article “Mindfulness for Singers: The effects of a targeted mindfulness course on learning vocal technique” published in the British Journal of Music Education DOI: 10.1017/S0265051715000145 and have presented my work at home and internationally.

New articles are in process to disseminate findings from my PhD. You can also read the whole thing (if you have time!) here.
